USB External ODD with a cheap case and internal ODD module of MBP

Several months ago, I installed an SSD and the original disk with Data Doubler. (Thanks again to Minwoo)

Existing internal ODD module was put into a box ‘cause I thought to myself I wouldn’t need it.

I was wrong. My wife wanted to play her wedding DVD, and I need the drive to install Windows 7 on my MBP with bootcamp.

I originally wanted to buy a case that would match the look and feel of my MBP. Unfortunately, it was a bit hard to get those cases quickly in Korea.

Instead, I bought a cheap plastic case.

Since the case was not for slot loading drive modules, the opening looks… ‘open’.

Despite the look, it works like a charm!

If you need a cheap case to use with ODD out of your MBP and you live in Korea,

I think the best product of the 4 is definitely kindle.

Kindle beats other devices in weight, ease of use, eInk screen quality, responsiveness, and most other areas.

Worst thing about biscuit is that it requires its own manager application to add books. The software only runs on Windows!!

After checking System Information, I found out TRIM support isn’t supported with the newly installed SSD.

Getting the contents off unreadable(?) CD/DVDs

Mac OS X Lion is full of mysteries and ~~wonders~~ bugs.

When my wife called me (back then, she was my girlfriend) saying that the DVD containing wedding rehearsal photos were not readable from her Mac Mini, I was expecting the DVD was defected or my wife was doing something wrong.

I didn’t suspect Mac OS X Lion as the source of the problem.

Last night, I inserted another DVD containing photos from my wedding ceremony. Nothing showed up on the Desktop. Even in the Finder, all I can see was a disabled DVD icon that I cannot select and see the contents of it.

Fortunately, I thought to myself, “Well, it seems that the DVD was successfully mounted, what I couldn’t do was getting it recognized by the Finder.”

I fired up Terminal Application, and went into the Volumes directory.

Voilà!

I was able to get all the contents off the disc using cp command from the Terminal.

The odd thing was the names of the disc itself and it’s folders. Oh no, the odd thing was Mac OS X Lion. Because Snow Leopard handled it all well without any hiccups.

Urg, I really need to do “mark all as read”. and...

I thought this was the most open space. Anyone can visit and read my murmurings.

However, with the explosion of SNS services (and with the unbelievable data loss on OSXDEV server), the blog happens to be more private place.

Life is hard, and it gets harder every year.

Once I had to take care of myself only. That wasn’t that hard. Taking care of others is much harder job. Especially when the other person should take care of others, too.
